DeFi Kingdoms is the number one play-to-earn (P2E) game on Harmony, rivaling Ethereum’s Axie Infinity and Polygon’s Vulcan Forged. With development underway and an expansion to smart contract ecosystem AVAX, DFK will shake the decentralized gaming industry.
The browser-based game features yield farming opportunities, utility-driven NFTs, and a DEX – which are wrapped inside a fantasy pixel art game where players trade, invest, and provide liquidity. The goal? Earn money by completing quests and farming liquidity pools in return for $JEWEL, DFK’s main utility token.
DeFi Kingdoms is a game on Harmony where players complete quests, level skills, combine NFTs, and farm tokens. The community compares it to Runescape, an iconic MMORPG from the 2000s famous for having a unique economy and bartering system.
This nostalgic gaming environment combined with Harmony’s scalable blockchain network is the foundation of DFK’s popularity. An active developer team, healthy tokenomics, and a realistic roadmap also contribute to the project’s spiraling adoption, which has seen a record TVL of $1.2B.
A vast portion of the game is still under development. The team has yet to launch player versus player (PvP) and player versus environment (PvE) battles, as well as Kingdoms (plots of land), and buildings. But despite the work required to complete the product, DeFi Kingdoms already has a populated community and rich in-game environment.
DFK features nine locations with NPCs:
For example, The Tavern has Barkeep Kessing, who allows you to search the Hero catalog (NFT registry) and send heroes to friends. Next to Kessing is Selena, whose Heroes market allows you to buy and sell NFTs.
The game offers a sense of real gameplay by forcing players to talk with non-playable characters. PvP and PvE battles will increase the engagement that DFK offers.
JEWEL is an HRC20 token that powers the DFK ecosystem. Players use the token to buy in-game items, unique NFTs (Heroes and Kingdoms), and player buffs. JEWEL also grants rewards to investors who stake the token. Voting on governance proposals with JEWEL is another way to spend the token.
A portion of JEWEL fees fund the:
The team has minted 10,000,000 JEWEL (out of 500,000,000) prior to launch to fund development and marketing costs. A portion was allocated to the initial liquidity pool for the JEWEL/ONE trading pair.
The section below introduces you to the most important locations in DFK.
DeFi Kingdoms has a decentralized exchange based on Uniswap V2 located in the Marketplace. The area features three NPCs: Merchant Matoya (trader), Druid Lazarus (liquidity pools), and Vendor Zada (seller).
Matoya allows you to trade ONE for JEWEL and vice versa. She also swaps other HRC tokens which are paired with ONE or JEWEL.
You must talk with Druid Lazarus to fund liquidity pools. The Druid hands out seeds that represent your share in a liquidity pool. You need to provide an equal share of two tokens (dollar-wise) to obtain seeds which you later plant in the Gardens to earn rewards.
Vendor Zarda sells potions that heal a hero or regain mana. If you earn items after completing a quest, you can sell them to Zarda for gold.
The Gardens features the Seed Box where you plant seeds to provide liquidity. The Seed Box shows a list of liquidity pools which differ by:
Seeds from Druid Lazarus are planted in the Seed Box. Once planted, they start generating JEWEL rewards.
You must interact with the harvest box to claim rewards. Note that claiming rewards charges fixed withdrawal fees. Moreover, you can’t claim your rewards until a certain date due to a time-lock.
Players stake tokens at The Bank. Depositing JEWEL to Banker Ian grants you a portion of the fees generated by DFK’s DEX. The reward rate from locking JEWEL depends on the player’s deposit. Depositing more JEWEL accrues higher rewards.
Players can redeem rewards and withdraw funds at any time without paying withdrawal fees. The Bank does not offer a fixed yield as transaction volume determines the rewards.
The Tavern allows you to view heroes, buy heroes, and progress in the game by completing quests. It features two NPCs called Barkeep Kissing and Selena the Agent.
Barkeep Kessing helps you send Heroes to other players by submitting a 0x address. Kessing also offers a Hero Catalog where players search for NFTs by inputting their rank or Hero number.
Selena shows you the heroes that you can buy or sell. This NPC is effectively an in-game NFT marketplace. You can also rent your heroes to others for a limited time.
Heroes are the primary NFT collection in DeFi Kingdoms. They offer use cases such as:
Players can pair multiple heroes to combine their stats and create a new hero at The Portal. They can also complete quests to earn JEWEL or in-game items, level up, and increase the skill level of a profession – a hero’s most important characteristic.
Heroes vary by profession, which include: gardening, mining, fishing, and foraging. Ordering a hero to complete a quest for his relevant profession enables him to earn rewards. However, quests drain stamina which limits the number of quests heroes can participate in. Heroes regenerate stamina at a rate of one point every 20 minutes.
Kingdoms are DFK’s secondary NFT collection. Kingdoms are plots of land found on the game’s world map that players can purchase, sell, or trade. Kingdoms provide different resources based on their location, which help with crafting rare equipment and building more complex buildings.
Players farm resources by creating buildings close to resource nodes. Certain types of buildings provide passive bonuses to heroes, such as improving stats and the efficiency at which you complete quests. Another type grants players higher returns on staking rewards.
Owning land enables you to forage. Foraging leads to rewards such as rare materials and special equipment. Note that Kingdoms are under development and have yet to launch.
To get started with DeFi Kingdoms you must meet the following requirements:
You will need to switch your Metamask account from the Ethereum network to Harmony to play DFK. The project features a step-by-step tutorial that guides you through Metamask’s wallet setup and buying ONE, which you can check out at the following link.
